Hays County Cemeteries

The Hays County Historic Commission has devoted much effort to chronicling the history of this area through the stories in the cemetery. Cemetery buffs will appreciate the rolling hills of the San Marcos Blanco Cemetery and the colorful flowers in the century old San Pedro Cemetery, among more than a dozen public access cemeteries in the San Marcos area. 

The highlight of our Cemetery tour is the San Marcos Cemetery featuring a beautifully restored open-air chapel that serves as the centerpiece for the traditional cemetery.

Built about 1890, this carpenter Gothic chapel has been the scene of many funerals and memorial services over the years, including those of Civil War, Spanish American War, and world War I veterans who are laid to rest here.
