Take a break from shopping to check out the historic architecture around the square, the LBJ Museum, and explore some of our almost-hidden treasures, like the 55 pound iron triangle that hangs from a tree on the north side of the courthouse. It was used in the late 19th and early 20th century to summon firefighters. It was also struck six times every evening at 6 p.m to signal the end of the downtown business day.

The sidewalks don't roll up in downtown San Marcos at 6 p.m. anymore! Locals and visitors can find something to do any hour of the day or night in San Marcos. More than three dozen restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and eateries offer a variety of local favorites for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And the night life starts early with hot spots staying open till 2 a.m. most nights.
