Committed to instructing, illuminating, and inspiring, THE WITTLIFF COLLECTIONS present major exhibitions from their literary and photography archives, assist researchers, welcome tours and classes, and host lectures, readings, and symposia featuring this region's important writers and photographers. The Southwestern Writers Collection preserves the literary papers of principal filmmakers, musicians, and writers such as Cormac McCarthy, Sam Shepard, and John Graves, as well as the archives of Texas Monthly and Fox's King of the Hill. Props, costumes, and more from Lonesome Dove are on permanent display. The Southwestern & Mexican Photography Collection holds major works by such renowned artists as Kate Breakey, Keith Carter, and Graciela Iturbide, and the largest archive of modern and contemporary Mexican photography in the U.S.
