February 2 -  Living History Trolley Tour - The “returned spirits” of General and Mrs. Edward Burleson showcase historic sites around San Marcos and tell of our town’s early days.  The tour leaves from the Tanger Outlet Visitor Center at 2 p.m. and takes about an hour and a half.  The cost is $5.  Call (512) 396-3739 for your reservation.

February 16 & 17 - Guadalupe Valley Dog Fanciers Show - An AKC licensed All Breed and Junior Showmanship Event to be held at the Hays County Civic Center. Free family event. Please no baby strollers. February 17 - 2008 Olympic Team Trials Qualifier - Red River Racing Team of San Marcos will host the 2008 Olympic Team Trials Qualifier. Professional racers from throughout the country will be coming to San Marcos' Rio Vista Park to begin their run for a spot on the Olympic Team! There will be pro-racing, novice, and junior classes so that anyone interested can compete in several competitions. Come enjoy the Olympic Spirit! April 4-6 -  SpringsFest 2008 - Second Annual Springs Fest at Rio Vista Park!  A variety of courses will be offered: Never-ever paddler, Kayak 101, Canoe 101, Beginning Whitewater, Intermediate Whitewater, Rolling, Freestyle Whitewater, Sea Kayaking, Kayak and Canoe Fishing, and many more! Junior boater classes will be offered as well, and an introduction to the Junior Olympic racing program. April 5 - Youthfest - This annual celebration of kids and arts will feature music, dancing, poetry reading, arts and crafts activities such as mask making, painting, and paper mache. Concession sales will benefit the Greater San Marcos Youth Council. All activities are free of charge. April 25 - 27 - Central Texas Golf Fest -  Largest amateur golf tournament in United States.  Participants play on seven courses in a tri-county area.   For more information contact the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce at (512) 393-5900. ##

April 26 & 27 - Texas State Mariachi Festival The annual festival will include workshops taught by the best in the area, a Mariachi Competition, and a concert featuring the competition winners. For information please contact John Lopez at (512) 245-7501. ##

May

May 2 - 4   - Viva! Cinco de Mayo - State Menudo Cook-off to be held on the grounds of the Hays County Civic Center. Three days of family fun and musical entertainment. Fajita, Brisket and Menudo cook-offs. Saturday: morning parade in downtown San Marcos - 9:00 a.m. Sunday: 2nd annual Slug Fest. Grounds admission $2.00; Slug Fest admission fee. May 3 & 4 - Heritage Home Tours/Tours of Distinction  - 2008 marks the 34th anniversary of the Heritage Association's Historic Home Tours. Heritage Association docents, many of them in costume, are stationed at each home to offer informaiton about each home. On this festive weekend, the self-paced tour of six historic homes built between 1887 and 1920, spanning American Foursquare, Queen Anne, Pioneer Farmhouse, Greek Revival and other styles, with outstanding exterior and interior elements wil be featured. At the first home visited, ticket holders receive a lovely 2008 Homes Tour catalog, which includes a map and descriptions of all homes. June 14  - Texas Water Safari - The world's toughest boat race.  The 260-mile non-stop adventure begins on the San Marcos River at Aquarena Center and ends in Seadrift, Texas.  A favorite for canoeists, kayakers, and spectators from all over. July  4 - Summerfest  - Freedom—Patriotism—Independence!!! The City of San Marcos is hosting the most exciting community independence celebration at a new location this year.  This FREE event will feature live entertainment, food booths, children’s activities, a patriotic program and a fireworks exhibition. Summerfest will be held on the grounds of San Marcos Plaza Park, same location as Sights of Sounds of Christmas. Rain or shine, festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a variety of musical and family entertainment. September 27 - Pet Fest - Pet Prevent a Litter (PALS) of Central Texas will host the seventh annual PET FEST at San Marcos Plaza Park from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. November 8 -  Commemorative Air Force Veterans' Day Dinner & Hangar Dance - Presented by the Central Texas Wing of the CAF Ghost Squadron, the dinner and dance will be held at the Centex Hangar at the San Marcos, Texas Airport. Dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by dancing from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Other activities include a silent auction and dance contest. November 11 - Veterans' Day Celebration - Join the citizens of San Marcos as they pay tribute to military war heroes at the annual Hays County Veterans' Day Parade in downtown San Marcos. Free for spectators. For information call (512) 393-8400. ##

DECEMBER
