Year Round - Farmers Market - Every Tuesday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Everything is homegrown and handmade. Select from baked goods, fruits, vegetables, plants, arts and crafts. FEBRUARY

February 20 & 21 - Guadalupe Valley Dog Fanciers Show - An AKC licensed All Breed and Junior Showmanship Event to be held at the Hays County Civic Center. Free family event. Please no baby strollers. APRIL

April 3 - Youthfest - The 7th annual celebration of kids and arts will feature music, dancing, poetry reading, arts and crafts activities such as mask making, painting and paper mache. Concession sales will benefit the Greater San Marcos Youth Council. All activities are free of charge. Event to be held on the banks of the San Marcos River at San Marcos Plaza from from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information, please contact (512) 754-0500. ##

April 9 & 10 - Date Change - Springs Fest 2010 - The 4th Annual Springs Fest at Rio Vista Park will bring together paddling enthusiasts, competitors, and the City of San Marcos to celebrate the Springs and paddling in the Texas Hill Country! April 23 - 25 - Central Texas Golf Fest -  Largest amateur golf tournament in United States. Participants play on seven courses in a tri-county area. For more information, contact the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce at (512) 393-5900. ##

MAY

April 30 & May 1 - Viva! Cinco de Mayo - The 36th Annual State Menudo Cook-off to be held on the grounds of the Hays County Civic Center. The event features exciting live music and entertainment, arts and crafts as well as a downtown parade. For more information, contact (512) 353-VIVA. ## **

May 1 - Date Change - Texas State University Mariachi Festival - More than 150 high school and college students throughout Texas travel to participate in a competition and instructional seminars focusing on various aspects of the mariachi art form. The festival culminates with "La Feria del Mariachi Concert" held April 24 from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum at Texas State University. May 1 & 2 - Heritage Home Tours/Tours of Distinction  - 2010 marks the 35th anniversary of the Heritage Association's Historic Home Tours. On this festive weekend, eight spectacular private homes will be opened to allow the public a glimpse into San Marcos' elegant past. Tours are conducted by Heritage Association docents, many of them in costume and all of them knowledgeable about the rich history of the area. May 15 - Texas Natural and Western Swing Festival - Sit back, relax on the banks of the San Marcos River and enjoy the sounds of Texas Western Swing legends. June 12 - Texas Water Safari - "Worlds Toughest Canoe Race". 260 mile canoe race begins at Aquarena Center and continues to the Gulf Coast. Free spectator admission. For more information, contact (512) 738-6607.

June 18 & 19- Juneteenth Celebrations - Enjoy the oldest known annual celebration of the ending of slavery. Festivities include music, BBQ cook-off, and festivities for the entire family. August 20 - 22 - Tax-Free Weekend - Shop early, stay late! Consumers will not pay taxes on any individual clothing or footwear item valued up to $100. Stores at Prime Outlets-San Marcos and Tanger Outlet Center will be open extended hours. Many stores will stay open 24 hours. Additional savings offered throughout the weekend. 

SEPTEMBER

September 4 & 5 - Fiesta 2010 - Two days of live musical entertainment, a variety of food booths, activities for all ages and a chance to win fabulous prizes. For more information, call St. John's Church at (512) 353-8969. ##

NOVEMBER

November 7 - Veterans' Day Celebration - Join the citizens of San Marcos as they pay tribute to military war heroes at the annual Hays County Veterans' Day Parade in downtown San Marcos at 10 a.m. Free for spectators. November 13 - Annual CAF Veteran's Day Dinner & Hangar Dance - A celebration of all the brave men and women who gave us our freedom. The event will be held at the Centex Hangar at the San Marcos Airport. The evening will include a dance contest, silent auction, BBQ and the sounds of 40's Big Band Swing music by the Sentimental Journey Orchestra. $30/person. For more information, call (512) 396-1943.

DECEMBER

December 2 - 4 - Sights and Sounds of Christmas - Lights, lights, and more lights. Start your Christmas shopping early at the Texas marketplace. Visit Santa’s village, ride the carousel, view a live nativity scene and enjoy delicious holiday favorites. The entire family will get into the holiday spirit by joining in on all the fun-filled activities. Event hours are 6 p.m to 10:30 p.m. $2.00 admission and Free park and ride from the Strahan Coliseum parking area. Contact the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department (512) 393-8400. ## **
