The SMTX Mermaid SPLASH is a 15-day festival that celebrates the mermaid as a symbol of guardianship for the San Marcos River with mermaid themed activities throughout San Marcos. Three primary events make up the event schedule, The Mermaid BallThe Downtown Mermaid Parade and The Mermaid Aqua Faire.

From the encouraged artistic evening attire, uniquely crafted Mer-tinis and awe-inspiring atmosphere of The Meadows Center - creativity is in vogue for the Mermaid Society Art Ball. Enjoy live music, specialty cocktails, live art performances, sunset glass-bottom boat tours and more at this uniquely San Marcos event.   

Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket, your best mermaid attire and a camera for a mermazing morning of dazzling floats, eclectic marchers, graceful dancers and lots of music! The Downtown Mermaid Parade is a SMTXperience you simply can’t miss. Austin Samba and Las Monas de San Antonio will lead this year’s parade, using their unique combination of rhythm, dance, movement, color and, of course, giant mermaid puppets, to get you into the mermaid spirit.

Merfolks of all ages will love the Mermaid Aqua Faire that follows the Downtown Mermaid Parade. The free festival includes live music performances by Rochelle and the Sidewinders, The Revs, The Railhouse Band and Salsa Del Rio. Enjoy local cuisine from a variety of food trucks and on-site food vendors. Shop Artisan Alley where you can peruse ceramics, glasswork, metalwork, photography, woodworks, jewelry, sculptures, paintings and more from local artisans. The family-friendly faire also has a KIDZONE where interactive activities are designed to entertain children of all ages and educate families about river conservation and stewardship.

Hays County Historic Courthouse

Downtown | Recently restored, the 1909 Hays County Courthouse is nestled in the center of the downtown square. Historic exhibits are now housed in it's lower floors.
