Running Season has Begun!

Just as fall begins, it seems running season is upon us. Whether you enjoy running trails, triathlons or shorter 5K and 1K races, there are many to choose from right here in San Marcos. Make it a full weekend after your race – see what else is happening in town by checking out our event calendar.

TRIATHLONS WITH A TWIST


September 26 • Spring Lake Triathlon

This sprint triathlon at Spring Lake of the Meadows Center is one of only two times a year the headwaters of the spring-fed San Marcos River is open to swimming. The 500-meter open water swim, 14-mile bike and 5K run event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos. DETAILS: www.rotarysanmarcos.com


October 24 • Martindale Triathlon

The Martindale Triathlon is reputed to be the oldest triathlon in the State of Texas. And what makes it a little different is that it includes a canoe/kayak paddle instead of a swim. The race includes 7-mile run, 16.5-mile bike and 5.5-mile paddle that can be completed by an individual, tandem or relay team. DETAILS: www.martindaletriathlon.com

 

GO AU NATUREL  IN TRAIL RUNS

October 31 • Halloween Trail Run

Work off that trick-or-treat candy in advance. This 10-mile course leads runners through the beautiful Purgatory Creek Natural Area and is a USATF sanctioned event. Walkers and hikers are encouraged to participate. REGISTER: here

January 16 • Purgatory Trail Run

Start the new year right with a 10-mile or 5K trail run. The 5K course is a rigorous course with medium technical rating and a perfect introduction into trail running. The 10-mile course will lead more runners through some difficult technical sections of trail. USATF sanctioned. REGISTER: here

October 18 • Pink Heals 5K and Kids 1K Fun Run

Pink Heals Hays County 5K and Kids 1K fun run is dedicated to supporting women and their families with costs associated with battling cancer. REGISTER: here

October 24 • The Great Pumpkin Dash

Get ready for Halloween with a run that passes an old cemetery. Dress up and you could win the prize for runner with the best costume! REGISTER: here

October 30 • Run 4 Your Life 5K

Spooky! Run or walk this nighttime street 5K in the Blanco Vista neighborhood. Benefits Hope & Love 4 Kids organization. REGISTER: here





October 31 • Dia
de los Muertos 5K and Kids 1K Fun Run

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a fun run/walk. Add to the fun and wear your favorite Day of the Dead running costume! REGISTER: here

November 7 • Rattler's Tackling Hunger 5K

This race takes place at the San Marcos High School football stadium and includes a 5K run, 1K kids fun run and walk-a-thon. INFO: here

November 21 • Thankful Turkey 5K

The race is on a scenic, rolling out-and-back course at Freeman Ranch on Fulton Ranch Road that climbs 100 feet to the turnaround point. REGISTER: here

December 5 • Sights & Sounds of Christmas 5K and 1K Jingle Bell Run

Celebrate Sights & Sounds of Christmas festival with a run through our beautiful and historic downtown and jingle your bells to ring in the holiday season. Top finishers are awarded a unique Santa trophy. REGISTER: here
