Art Markets, Pop-up Galleries and Downtown Cheer

Check out the art markets and pop-up galleries happening around town. It’s a feast for your eyes and a great way to find unusual gifts for family, friends and even yourself. Be sure to plan on visiting Downtown San Marcos a lot this season – there is not-to-be-missed holiday fun all month long!

November 21 • Hecho A Maño~Mercado Artesano
9am-5pm • Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos, 211 Lee St.

Made by hand~Artisian Market features hand made art and cultural items. There will also be a special Children’s Christmas Shop with items priced $5 or less so children to buy affordable gifts for friends and family.

November 28 • Downtown Lighting & Elfies
10am-6pm • Downtown Square

Spend the day downtown and take advantage of retailer specials for Small Business Saturday. Show you #LoveSMTX and post your #ElfieSelfie with elves hidden in downtown stores for prizes. Receive complimentary gift-wrapping and a Love Downtown ornament from the Main Street elves. Santa will be at the Courthouse from 10am-2pm. Holiday lighting of downtown will happen at 6pm. 

November 28-29 • Eye of the Dog Home Show
10am-5pm//12-5pm • Eye of the Dog Art Center, 405 Valley View West Rd.

Over 30 artists display their art – ceramics, paintings, jewelry, textiles, sculpture and more! Live music, kid’s clay play table and free admission! Do your holiday shopping in a mellow and unique atmosphere! 10-5 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday.

December 1 • Courthouse Lighting & Santa
6pm -7pm• Hays County Historic Courthouse

Join the festivities of the annual lighting of the County Courthouse downtown at 6pm. Enjoy Christmas Carolers, cake and tell Santa how good you’ve been all year. Bring an unwrapped toy or monetary donation for the Sheriff’s Office Brown Santa program which provides gifts and food for families in need.

December 2-5 • Sights & Sounds of Christmas
5pm nightly • San Marcos Plaza Park, Hopkins St. @ CM Allen Pkwy.

Enjoy four full evenings of holiday festivities. Highlights include carnival rides, arts & crafts vendors, pictures with Santa, carolers and musical performances, live nativity scene and a food court.

December 5 • SMTXmas
9am-5pm • 78666 Customs Studio, 167 S. LBJ Dr.

All of the vendors are SMTX locals, many of whom sell worldwide online.  This is a unique opportunity to shop their pieces in person and have exclusive access to not only some of their "studio clear-out" items, but also their brand new, debut designs.  The sale is presented boutique-style with a convenient, central check-out where shoppers can make all their purchases at once, cash or credit.

December 5 • DuBois III Gallery Pop-up
5pm-8pm • Salon Mink, 167 S. LBJ Dr.

A pop-up gallery of artists paintings and 3-D media, live music and hors d’oeuvres. Come explore new art, add to your collection and buy some for holiday gift giving.

December 10 • Cookies & Cocoa at the Courthouse
6pm • Downtown Square, Hopkins St. @ LBJ Dr.

There’s no better way to get in the holiday mood that by eating cookies, sipping cocoa, listening to carolers and watching the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Find a spot on the courthouse lawn with your blanket and snacks. Movie starts at 6:00pm, there will be a free photo booth with Santa and his elves. This event is free and hosted by the San Marcos Park & Recreation Department!

December 12 • Art Squared Art Market & Santa
9am-4pm • Downtown Square, Hopkins St. @ LBJ Dr.

Juried art vendors include paintings, sculpture, jewelry, woodwork, pottery and more. Browse the booths and enjoy live music on the shaded courthouse lawn. There will also be a kid’s booth where little ones can make their own project to take home. Santa will be at the courthouse from 10am-2pm to say Feliz Navidad too!

December 12 • Walker’s Gallery Sale & Reception
5-7:30pm • San Marcos Activity Center, 501 Hopkins St.

The opening of the exhibit “Chiaroscuro: from Dark to Light” will include 2D and 3D works in a variety of medium created by local artists who were affected by the two floods this year. Many will display artwork that is also available for purchase at a pop-up shop this night only. 

December 19 • Wrap Up the Holidays Downtown
10am-7pm • Downtown Square, Hopkins St. @ LBJ Dr.

Finish up your holiday shopping and enjoy roaming carolers, sneak a kiss under the mistletoe in Kissing Alley. Santa will be at the Courthouse from 10am-2pm. Then take a horse-drawn historic tour that evening between 4-7pm. Complimentary gift-wrapping and a Love Downtown ornament for purchases made from downtown shops.
