Open Mic Night: Sounds of San Marcos

The first Sounds of San Marcos Open Mic Night is Monday, June 13, 2016 in Eddie Durham Park. Local singer-songwriter Ashleigh Stone is MC of the two-hour event. The free show will showcase six San Marcos musicians, poets, and artists. The performances begin at 7pm. Those attending are welcome, and invited, to bring blankets, snacks, and refreshments. For those performing, simply plug and play. A sign up list can be found on Google Documents. Those entered will be selected in the order of in which the entry is received. Eddie Durham Park is located at 217 MLK Dr. in San Marcos, Texas. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase many of the established and developing entertainers of San Marcos on a summer evening.
This is the first of two SofSM Open Mic Night’s at Eddie Durham Park. The second will be Monday, July 11, 2016. Artists and entertainers interested should note the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department would provide

About the park
Eddie Durham was born August 19, 1906 in San Marcos, Texas. Famous for integrating the electric guitar into Jazz and recording the first such arrangement, Eddie Durham is arguably the most influential Jazz composer of his time. In his honor Eddie Durham Park was dedicated on August 13, 2013. The park features xylophones, guitar shaped pathway, performance gazebo, and covered seating.
Those attending the event will have access to public restrooms and ground space near the performers. Families are welcome as this is an all ages event with free-range space available. Parking is available on MLK Drive as well as Valley Street. Children are welcome to play along with the featured xylophones.
