Four days of cool things to do in San Marcos this 4th of July Weekend. Make plans now to come have some fun!



First First Friday on the First

8-10pm • Root Cellar Bakery and Catering Co. • 142 N LBJ Dr.

Nothing says freedom like pastries, beer and great music! Come join us on July 1st to hear another Root Cellar employee shows off their talent. Luke "Dos" Williams will be kicking off the start of our first Friday's. Dos is part of a local band "The Canvas People" and plays a wide variety of instruments. For this show he will be sticking to acoustic guitar and some original numbers. Joining him for this acoustic set is local Austin band "The Wild Now". There is no better way to kick off independence weekend!

Buddy Pajak Closing Night & Live Demonstration

6-9:30p. • 218studioworks • 218 N Guadalupe St.

Check out the final night to see some amazing work by Buddy Pajak. He will paint live, and you could be the lucky one who wins the painting FREE at the closing of the night! Don't miss this chance to get an original piece from a great artist.

The Aqua Show

9-11:45pm • Stonewall Warehouse • 141 E Hopkins St.

A beautiful and lighthearted burlesque experience meant to invoke the fluidity of life in all of us! This show is proud to support the growth of arts and culture in San Marcos through the benefit of the SMTX Mermaid Society! Performers from all over Texas will entertain with unique Mermaid and water inspired burlesque and sideshow acts. You don't want to miss this spectacular show! 'Cause life is all about making the biggest SPLASH!!

4th of July Weekend Celebration

9am-10:30pm • The Meadows Center • 201 San Marcos Springs Dr.

The Meadows Center will host a 4th of July weekend celebration at Spring Lake full of family fun, outdoor learning and hands-on activities for all ages. Programs and specials include:

Interpretive Nature Walk | July 2,3 & 4 • 11:00am – 12:30pm 
Experience the peninsula that sits just above the headwaters of the San Marcos River. From tall Live Oaks to Mexican buckeye, this guided walk will explore some of the amazing plants that call this area home. Come discover what the area has to offer! $5 donation suggested.

Kids Activities | July 2,3, & 4 • 11:00am – 3:00pm
Drop by the Discovery Hall for hands-on activity stations specially designed for kids and their families. $1 suggested donations for supplies.
Bug Picking Station: Discover what bugs live in the water at Spring lake by exploring water samples.
Face Painting Station: Join us for a few hours of face painting!
Feather Hair Station: Learn how to create your own handmade hair accessories using feathers and other natural items.

Film Screening: Written in Water | July 4 • 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Join us in Discovery Hall for a film screening of “Written in Water”. This hour-long movie focuses on the Ogallala Aquifer and examines the conflicts, politics, economics and groundwater depletion in the High Plains region. The film follows farmers and a West Texas community that is struggling to survive as the wells run dry and highlights the tension between property rights advocates and State-mandated pumping limits.

Nighttime Aquaria & Fireworks Watching Event | July 4 • 8:30pm – 10:30pm
End a long 4th of July weekend with a special nighttime opening of Spring Lake Hall. Visitors are invited to explore the Discovery Hall’s exhibits and aquaria beginning at 8:30pm. Head upstairs to the rooftop at 9pm for an exclusive view of the City of San Marcos’ fireworks show. Watch the fireworks glow against the crystal clear waters of Spring Lake. Concessions will be available. $5 - $10 suggested donation at the door.


Esplosione di Colori

2-6pm • Wimberley Glassworks • 6469 Ranch Road 12

After months of creative experimentation, a new art glass design by Tim and the Glassworks has come together in a grand finale of explosive color, to be presented this 4th of July weekend. Join us in celebration of Esplosione di Colori, see these pieces created in a glassblowing demo, and during the festivities enjoy wine tasting and craft beer by Patio Dolcetto Wine Lounge Bier Garden and Artisan Gallery in San Marcos. 6-10pm • San Marcos Plaza Park • 206 N CM Allen Pkwy. At Hopkins St.

Come out to San Marcos Plaza Park for the city’s annual FREE 4th of July celebration starting at 6:00pm. The celebration will feature live music, children’s parade, a patriotic costume contest, food vendors and a grand finale fireworks display. The Adam Johnson Band kicks off the festival at 6pm. The Children’s parade and costume contest begins at 7pm followed by the festival headliner Wyzer at 7:30. Fireworks light up the sky at approximately 9:30pm.
