San Marcos Holiday Shopping

November 20, 2017

San Marcos is renowned for the plethora of shopping within the city limits. From the largest outlet center in the nation, to some of the best boutique shopping in Central Texas, you can spend a whole week shopping in San Marcos without seeing it all. That’s why we created this handy holiday cheat sheet, to help you rack up the savings and cross off every name on your gift list! Let’s get started, shall we?

Black Friday

Now is the time to start caffeinated and limbering up, the biggest shopping day of the year is upon us! Black Friday at the San Marcos Outlet Center is considered a sport around these parts. Endurance, agility and a thirst for victory, shopping athletes all over the world come to San Marcos on Thanksgiving anxiously awaiting the glorious deals to be had.

Both the San Marcos Premium Outlets and Tanger Outlets start the “Black Friday” festivities at 6pm on Thanksgiving Day and end at 10pm the following Friday. The southbound IH 35–Centerpoint Road exit ramp and the northbound IH 35-McCarty Lane exit ramp will be closed from Thursday at 12pm until 11pm Friday. This means that traffic going to the outlet center will need to exit McCarty Lane going southbound IH 35 or exit at Centerpoint Road going northbound IH 35. There is also free parking and shuttle service on Thursday and Friday at San Marcos High School, 2601 Rattler Road.

Shop Small Saturday

From local artists’ wares to trendy boutiques, shopping small in San Marcos is full of surprising finds. We recommend tackling Shop Small Saturday by taking sections of the city at a time. Start with the boutiques on the south side of town by visiting our friends at Centerpoint Station, Hays Co. Outfitters, The Vineyard Marketplace and Two P’s and Calli’s. Then move towards downtown San Marcos, stopping on Wonder World Drive to check out what’s going on at Trends & Traditions and Stitches & Such.

Now that you’re warmed up, it’s time to tackle downtown San Marcos, the hub of the city. Fine art, vintage treasures, athletic apparel, trendy pieces and downright eclectic gifts await you all within walking distance. We have a full list of stores you can find HERE for convenience. Shop to your heart’s content and then take a load off at any one of our fantastic restaurants, or wonderful bars – we don’t judge! And speaking of fantastic San Marcos eats and drinks, a gift card to your favorite San Marcos restaurant or a growler from your favorite local brewery is the perfect gift to give that one exceptionally hard to buy for loved one, we all have at least one…

Once you’ve shopped till you dropped, racked up all the discounts humanly possible and picked out at least one gift for yourself, it’s time to share your victory selfie on social media you rockstar. Go ahead and hashtag #SMTXperience with pride – you deserve it!
