Run SMTX: A Runners Guide to San Marcos

January 5, 2018

You’ve clocked the miles, the gear is all broken-in and now it’s time for the big race. Whether you make a personal record or not (although we bet you do) you deserve to treat yourself to the best SMTXperience possible – let us be your guide!

Make sure you’ve packed everything you need, but if you’ve forgotten something, or packed two left shoes (not like we’ve ever done that before…) don’t worry, we have you covered! You can find discounted shoes, clothing and accessories at the San Marcos Outlet Center. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, The North Face, Lululemon, Champs, Under Armour, Finish Line, Columbia, ASICS and Lids are all located in the 1.2 million square feet of shopping heaven. We highly recommend paying our friends at Core Running Company a visit for professional-grade equipment and advice.

Blue Dahlia Bistro, The Candy Wraptor (vegan and gluten-free friendly), Cheer and Chow, Palmer’s Restaurant and Root Cellar Café and Brewery are all excellent places that offer nutritious, light and filling options.

Enjoy a leisurely few hours in (or on) the crystal-clear San Marcos River, take a tour of Spring Lake on the famous Glass-Bottom Boats or simply walk around exploring downtown San Marcos. Enjoy San Marcos the way the locals do - laid-back and stress-free.

You did it! You trained hard, you left it all out on the course and now it’s time to celebrate. And what better way to celebrate than by indulging in some Texas BBQ, a SMTXtreme burger, locally crafted beer or live music? If energetic nightlife is how you like to celebrate a job well done run, you have to visit downtown San Marcos for a night on the Square. In the words of the great Kenny Chesney, everything gets hotter (in San Marcos) when the sun goes down.
