Concerts, chalk art contests, festivals, markets and more – spring is the perfect time to treat yourself to an art-centric SMTXpereince! Whether you want to create, learn, watch or join in, artists and art lovers of all skill levels and mediums can enjoy the colors of San Marcos.  

 

Art on the Rock

March 28

Art on the Rock is an open studio tour of eight creative spaces in Lime Kiln/Hillard area of San Marcos which has become the home to many artists and makers. Visit each studio to experience colorful and creative San Marcos! From pottery to stained glass, textiles to paintings you're sure to leave feeling like a member of the local art scene and possibly with a new piece of your own.

Art Squared

Every Second Saturday March - December

Art Squared Arts Market is a juried arts and fine crafts market that brings the best local artists together in one place. You’ll find great art of all kinds, live music, free kids’ arts and crafts booth, live art demonstrations and more.

Music on the Square is a Downtown concert series on the Courthouse lawn every Thursday evening in April from 6:30-9pm. This family-friendly concert features local musicians that got their start in San Marcos. The event is picnic-style and BYOB (no glass) so bring your chairs or blankets and kick back on the lawn. Make an evening of it and have dinner downtown then show your receipt for a free tote bag full of Main Street’s Downtown swag. The party doesn’t stop after the music has – head over to Industry restaurant for the kickin’ after party.

 

Martian Arts Festival

April 3-4
Celebrate San Marcos’ diversity and vibrant culture with Martian Arts Festival! The festival showcases local talent by blending arts and music to provide a distinguishably unforgettable experience. The weekend-event is loaded with musical acts ranging from reggae rock to fusion jazz, plus silent disco, local artisans, yoga and meditation sessions, workshops and much more!

 

Art in the Yard

April 16
Art in the Yard takes place every third Thursday of the month at the Railyard Bar & Grill. Featuring uniquely San Marcos art and live music, as well as food and drink specials. Expect one-of-a-kind handmade and artisan treasures.

Chalk Art SMTX

April 18
Embrace your inner artist at the first ever chalk art contest in Downtown San Marcos – Chalk Art SMTX. This family friendly event has categories for both children and adults. Show off your skills to local “celebrity” judges, and maybe even take home the People’s Choice Award! Winning artwork will be featured in promotional materials for next year's Chalk Art SMTX.

Take a stroll around the lawn to see other artwork and a professional chalk artist creating. There will be additional kids activities as well as live music to enjoy. The event will take place from 9am-6pm on the Hays County Courthouse Lawn.

 

3rd Saturday Mermaid Bazaar

April 18
The 3rd Saturday Mermaid Bazaar is a unique market featuring local artisans, crafters, vintage sellers and more. The market takes place at Wonder World Cave and Adventure Park is open every third Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

 

Wimberley Glassworks Garden Party

May 2
Come explore Wimberley Glasswork's Glass Garden grown from the creative minds at the Glassworks and individually crafted from blown glass. The party will feature art and a Texan style garden party in the gallery and on the patio under the oaks. There will be complimentary live music, cocktails, bites and glass blowing demonstrations from 1-4pm.


 

Dirt Dauber Festival

May 16-17
Partake in a wonderful two-day celebration of all things clay with this free event. Watch clay art demonstrations, enjoy refreshments, a kids’ clay play table and live music. There are also more than 40 artists who will be on site displaying, creating and demonstrating their wares and talents.
