San Marcos River Shots:
The crystal clear San Marcos River rises from the San Marcos Springs at a constant 72 degrees year round, perfect for a refreshing dip anytime of year!
Catch a glass-bottom boat at Aquarena Center at the headwaters of the San Marcos River. Learn more about several threatened or endangered species who make their home here, including the Texas Blind Salamander, Fountain Darter, and Texas Wild Rice.
Kids of all ages will delight in the spring-fed waters of the San Marcos River. The dam at Rio Vista Park is the jewel of our crystal clear river, with three adventurous drops, perfect for kayaking and tubing.

Tube-up and place your order at the San Marcos River Pub. A hotspot for cooling off after a day on the river, the River Pub features Texas cuisine and an award-winning Mexican Martini! Outdoor concerts by leading Texas artists are free to the public every Sunday night during summer months.
Downtown
The Hays County Courthouse Square has been a meeting place for friends for more than one hundred years. The restored 1909 Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The seductive pleasures of The Root Cellar attract locals and visitors alike, to sip a nice glass of wine or grab a New York strip lion or seared salmon fillet.
Our Public Parks
The Playscape at Children’s Park (205 S. CM Allen Parkway) is one of the largest community-built playscapes in the United States. At over 20,000 square feet, the San Marcos playscape contains some 70 playstations and is entirely surrounded by a skateboard trail.
Skateboard enthusiasts need to oil their ball bearings and head for the San Marcos Skate Park, 625 E. Hopkins. The 10,000-square-foot concrete, outdoor course features walls, ramps and rails that test the best boarders in a safe environment. (Helmets are required.)
