Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest

Every September merfolk take over San Marcos for the Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest. This annual event celebrates the unique San Marcos culture and features local art and heritage. The event is made up of a parade and faire. If you love the quirky and colorful, you surely won’t want to miss this!  

Party At The Downtown Promenade

Start your Saturday off swimmingly with the Mermaid Capital of Texas Downtown Promenade, an all-inclusive parade celebrating the history of the Aquarena Springs Aquamaids as well as highlighting local art, history, businesses, and the city’s most precious resource, the San Marcos River. The parade features floats, marchers, dancers, music, and more. You never know what eclectic floats and costumes will show up next! The parade line-up starts at the corner of CM Allen Parkway at Cheatham Street and offers plenty of viewing options along the route. We recommend getting downtown early to pick up a coffee or breakfast and find a good spot for the festivities. 

Downtown Street Faire

Noon-6pm
After all the excitement of the parade, keep the celebration going with the Downtown Street Faire! The Downtown Street Faire is an all-day event that includes live music, a juried art market with more than 130 vendors, and food trucks. The Faire is located on the Historic Hays County Courthouse grounds and surrounding streets.
